Mwea Mp Kabinga Wachira has urged residents of Mt Kenya region to heed President Uhuru Kenyatta call in supporting the BBI recommendations.
The Mp said the region stands to benefit immensely through the provisions in the BBI document.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi the Mp said leaders in the region were eagerly awaiting for the county assemblies to pass the BBI bill.
“Once the document passes in the 24 counties as required per the law, we will embark on a major civic education campaign to ensure our people understands the many benefits in the document,” he said.
The IEBC has already submitted to the 47 counties the BBI draft Bill for approval. It will require two thirds or 24 counties to approve the Bill before Kenyans can take a vote to approve or reject it in a referendum.
He dismissed the notion that the campaign initiative will meet resistance on the ground and stands to be rejected.
“The region stands to get more resources which will not only improve the livelihood of our people but will ensure more money reaches Kenyans at the grassroots level,” Kabinga noted
According to Kabinga the Sagana three has completely changed the mood on the ground after locals learnt more resources will be channeled to the grassroot level.
He furrher urged locals to separate the BBI with the 2022 presidential campaign noting that the two were completely detached.
The Mwea Mp said the initiative was not intended to market the ODM leader Raila Odinga in the region.
The MP observed that the 10 Mt Kenya county assemblies have assured they will pass the BBI legislation within the required legal timeline.
