DP Ruto calls for a national dialogue to address tough economic times

Deputy President William Ruto has called for a national dialogue to address the economic situation affecting the country.

The Deputy President said the dialogue should involve leaders from all political parties and Kenyans.

"We have a serious situation that requires input of every individual in the country," said Mr Ruto.

Mr Ruto said the hard economic times as a result of Corona pandemic has caused revenue sharing stalemate between national and county Governments.

"We must have that consensus now, we must also have our priorities right," added Mr Ruto.

Mr Ruto noted that challenges witnessed in schools, hospitals and low income earnings by Kenyans were more of a priority compared to constitutional amendments.

The Deputy President said it was time leaders stop discussion on creating political positions and instead discuss matters affecting ordinary Kenyans.

"All of us have to agree first, we should sit as leaders from all political parties and agree how to solve problems affecting Kenyans," he said.

Governor Kivutha Kibwana questioned how a constitutional moment that took the whole country more than 20 years was being rushed by only a few individuals in the name of BBI.

Prof Kibwana said the entire process was illegal since there were no laws guiding the process enacted by Parliament.

Prof Kibwana said Government should instead prioritize disbursement of funds to counties instead of advancing the BBI m, which he said was meant to create positions for few individuals.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo said the  Kamba community has been cheated by all the previous regimes in terms of development.

"We want to be treated as the fourth largest tribe in Kenya which we are already are," said Mutura.

Mr Kilonzo said the hustler nation and all those seeking votes will have to convince the community they are different from others.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone  Muthama said Dr Ruto vision to unite Kenyans irrespective of tribe had made him a frontline runner in the 2022 elections.

Mr Muthama said his decision to back Dr Ruto was also informed from a deep thought of political future of Kamba community.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said City residents should be left to elect leaders of their choice through the ballot.

The ousted Governor said the proposed nominations of Nairobi leadership was unconstitutional.

Machakos town MP Victor Munyaka said the Kamba community have been in political cold for long.

He urged the community to rally behind Deputy President Ruto who he said was ahead of the pack in 2022 race.

Dr Munyaka urged Ukambani residents not to loose focus in the coming polls.

The late Ndambuki 86 was an uncle to Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.
